Mr Jones first came to Falls Creek in 1978 before purchasing the Pretty Valley Alpine Lodge in 1979.
"I initially came for three years, I guess my mathematics isn't too good I'm still here," he said.
"I'd like to think I'm enjoying it as much as when I first came here, the body is getting a bit old but the enthusiasm is still there."
This season marks Mr Jones' 40th in Falls Creek and the 24th year of Pretty Valley's iconic English pub, the Cock N Bull.
Mr Jones said while he might not have planned to stay for four decades, he doesn't have any plans to leave now.
"There's a few options on how you do leave and I don't want to think about some of them," he said.
"While we're mobile enough I think there's no better place to live."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Over his time on the mountain Mr Jones has seen control over Falls Creek change from the State Electricity Commission to the Alpine Resort Commission and then to the Falls Creek Resort Management body.
"You can see the transformation of the village, the upgraded buildings the infrastructure it's looking as good as it's ever been," he said.
"It's a nice place to live summer and winter, I enjoy the skiing but also enjoy the quieter times."
Mr Jones said Falls Creek was a homely, family resort which is why it appealed so much to visitors and locals.
Each year, the opening of Cock N Bull unofficially marks the start of Falls' busiest time of the season, with residents gathering to celebrate.
A spokesman from the Falls Creek Management Resort said fours lifts and top to bottom skiing would be available this weekend.
He said the slopes were primed for the Victorian school holiday rush, which is usually busiest period of the snow season, after a consisted run of freezing temperatures.
The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted a minimum of two degrees and maximum of three on Saturday.
