Wyena claimed the Horse Riding Clubs Association of Victoria navigation ride.
The HRCAV has around 260 groups through Victoria and southern NSW with the metropolitan outfit claiming the Top Teams Trophy.
"It's like orienteering for horses," Yackandandah Riding Club's Kim Warne said of the unique event.
"The idea is to go along at a fast walk or slow trot and for each set of directions, there's a number of clues and you have to find those clues and get five points for each one.
"Some of the clues can be really quite cryptic."
ALSO IN SPORT:
The competition had teams of four with two long riders, tackling the 21km event, and two short riders over 15.7ks.
Yackandandah won last year's event, meaning it earns the right to host the event, but not compete.
Albury-Wodonga finished fourth over the hilly and difficult course.
The event attracted around 100 competitors, including some from Wagga.
