The 56-year-old Beechworth man did not say anything other than "thank you" when the case was adjourned after a brief hearing in Wangaratta Magistrates Court on Monday.
Police allege Elmer was driving a B-double truck at Glenrowan West when he hit an historical army truck from behind at about 10pm on March 13.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The driver, a 54-year-old Drysdale man, was air-lifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries, and remains in hospital.
Elmer faces charges of dangerous driving causing serious injury and fail to stop and render assistance at a serious injury collision.
He will remain on bail until his next court appearance in November.
