The Three Choirs Festival 2019 will present Handel's Messiah in performances at Albury and Wangaratta conducted by well-known Border musician Paul Tasker.
A collaboration between Beechworth Singers, the Murray Conservatorium Choir and Vocal Dimension, Wangaratta, the festival has been a Border and North East tradition for more than 30 years.
The singers will be accompanied by the Three Choirs Festival Orchestra, formed for this event and involving musicians from across the region.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Based on a scriptural text compiled by Charles Jennens, Messiah was composed by George Frideric Handel in only 24 days.
A reflection on the life of Jesus Christ in three parts, the oratorio was first performed in Dublin in April 1742.
The sacred nature of the subject matter attracted some controversy and initial accusations of blasphemy, even though the composer dedicated it To God Alone the Glory.
However over time its popularity grew, with the work as a whole and individual arias and choruses performed frequently worldwide.
Tickets are available from participating choristers as well as Murray Conservatorium and Regent Cinema Albury, Edgars Newsagency Wangaratta and Beechworth information centre.
