Timothy Mark Willis also managed to get hold of a domestic violence video statement the victim had made to police.

Willis sent this to the woman under the name of a "Mark Yesmin" and followed that up with dozens of messages, including ones where he made references to her keeping the children from him.

The 37-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to contravening an apprehended violence order, but had planned on fighting the charge of publishing a recorded statement.

But he changed his mind on that in Albury Local Court this week, when defence solicitor Tim Hemsley changed it to a plea of guilty.

The court heard that Willis had not long served a jail term for assault-related matters and had an upcoming trial.

"I might need to get a (sentence assessment) report, a bit seems to be going on," magistrate Rodney Brender said.

Willis and the victim had two children from their relationship, but had separated quite some time ago.

As the result of a domestic violence incident in July, 2016, the victim took part in what police termed a "domestic violence evidence-in-chief recorded statement".

"The video statement has since come into the possession of the accused," police said.

The court was told that since July of 2018, the victim had been receiving messages via the Facebook Messenger app from the Mark Yesmin profile.

The victim sensed it was actually her former partner, given the references to children living with one partner and not the other.

It was on August 31, 2018, that Willis sent the woman a text message containing an image that appeared to be a "screen grab" of her domestic violence video victim statement.

Because of another unrelated incident, she had taken out another AVO against Willis 10 days earlier.

Willis will be sentenced on September 25.
