Mum Bethany Robinson submitted a $180,000 application to the NSW government's My Community Project grant round to upgrade the ageing infrastructure.
Residents of the Albury electorate had until August 15 to vote on an array of nominations, and the successful projects will be announced on Thursday.
But even if the waterslide misses out, Mrs Robinson said there was enough of a groundswell to take up the issue further.
"It's been closed for the last two years and every summer that it is closed, it's just disappointing," she said.
"I've had people contact me talking about starting petitions if we can't get the money.
"It's fairly iconic to Mulwala and it would be a shame to lose it."
The slide is more than 30 years old and would require a decent face-lift.
"Phill Smith, who used to operate it and also had ski rides, retired and nobody had the interest to take it over," Mrs Robinson said.
"Phill owned the pumps and things, so it's now just a shell of the slide.
"With OHS and those sorts of things, it adds up.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We need to get pumps, and get it tested to see it's still safe."
Ron Hall of Tunzafun said his fellow volunteers at the nearby amusement park were supportive of the cause, and he personally took it up with Federation Council in 2018.
"There is talk that maybe there could be a family pass at Tunzafun that includes rides on the slide and use of our dodgem cars," he said.
"It would be a shame to see the slide go.
"I have relatives who were nearly in tears when they found out it had closed.
"You used to find it hard to put a blanket on the ground at Apex Park, but now you can go down on a 35-degree-day and you have it all to yourself.
"We want it, families want it, and our kids want it."
Other projects bidding for a slice of $24.4 million of My Community Project funding include an electronic scoreboard for Alexandra Park, upgraded Holbrook netball courts, and an after-hours learning hub for school students at Corowa.
