BO'C: Howlong have had an amazing year spending the season in the top three, you must be pretty happy with that.
EB: Yeah definitely. We didn't really know what to expect going into the season, so we definitely exceeded our own expectations. We're really excited that we've made finals and hope to keep going a bit further.
BO'C: First year as A-grade coach, what led to the decision to take on the role this season?
EB: Brooke Cannon coached us the last two seasons and she stepped back after having a baby this year. I took a little bit of convincing to say yes, but basically I just decided that I wanted to keep doing what Brooke had already implemented in the past two years. I was assistant coach last year, so I just wanted to keep that stability going. So far it's worked out pretty well for us.
ALSO IN SPORT:
BO'C: You're naturally a bit of a quieter person. How have you found addressing the group and giving them feedback.
EB: That was probably what I was most nervous about when I said yes to coaching- what to say at quarter time breaks as well as making some of the tougher decisions. I have to say though, when you're having a pretty successful season it's definitely easier. When the girls do a really good job it's always easier to find positive feedback. I think with each game you work out what kind of feedback helps the players and you roll from there.
BO'C: Tahnee Klippel-Thorpe has come into the team this season as your new goal shooter. She looks to have settled in seamlessly.
EB: Yeah she was definitely an unknown element for a lot of teams at the start and I think it took them a while to work out how to play on her. I shoot with her and it's great having such a dominant shooter. I get to play more of a feeder role and chip in when needed.
BO'C: You won your first week of finals against Holbrook. You're now heading into another tough challenge this weekend against Brock-Burrum. What are some of the things you'll be focusing on this week?
EB: We only played them two weeks ago, so we felt after that game that we'd given ourselves a lot of opportunities and created a lot of turnovers. We just probably didn't capitalise as well and gave the ball back a bit too much. I think a lot of it is about just playing with the consistency we had at the start of the season, and getting the confidence back that we had when we were on a roll. We all felt pretty good after Holbrook last week. We felt like we had that consistency and relaxed nature we had at the start. We're definitely a lot more confident going into this week's game.
