After bowing out of last year's preliminary final, the Cats will have a chance to re-write history this weekend when they face the team that stopped their grand final berth last season- Kiewa Sandy Creek.
The Cats and Hawks came face-to-face two weeks ago in the qualifying final, with the Cats hanging on to claim victory by just one goal.
A grand final spot hangs in the balance on Saturday with a potential meeting with minor premiers Thurgoona up for grabs.
"It would be nice to get some revenge on last season's result, but it will be what it will be," Deegan said.

"I think it's fair to say that not much separates the two sides, it just depends on who comes to play on the day.
"I think Kiewa are one of the teams we match-up quite well against, with some good pairings between Haylee Penny (Hawks) and Jamie Sandilands (Cats) and Darcy Aumont (Hawks) and Emily Browne (Cats) in the centre."
While Rutherglen has this year's league best and fairest at the helm in Emily Browne, the Hawks have the knowledge of two-time coach of the year Kath Evans.
Deegan, who has been in the A-grade side for the past three years after returning from Darwin, admits she's enjoyed having Browne's guidance.
"It's really good to have her on and off the court," Deegan said.
"She brings a lot of knowledge with her."
Rutherglen and Kiewa Sandy-Creek will clash on Saturday at 2:50pm.
