The NSW government must provide greater support to rural communities suffering through drought, according to the Country Women's Association state president.

Stephanie Stanhope visited Albury on Tuesday to meet branch members from the Murray group at the CWA hall in Kiewa Street.
"With water, it is getting so desperate," she said.
"A lot of the smaller towns in the northern regions aren't going to be able to open their swimming pools this year because there just isn't the water to fill them.
"The flow-on effects of that for the community, mental, social interactions, I think it's quite astronomical."

Ms Stanhope said the association wrote to the NSW government outlining options to help small businesses affected by the drought.
"What (people) are telling us they need is real and tangible help, delivered to their businesses directly, in order to help them survive and support their communities into the future," she said.
The NSW CWA offers drought aid grants of up to $3000 a family, to be used for household expenses like utility or medical bills. To apply, visit cwaofnsw.org.au.
