Tim Slade and Nick Percat finished fifth and sixth, respectively, but the same can't be said for Albury's David Reynolds, who will start Sunday's race back in 22nd.
Reynolds was quick from lap one and dominated the first practice session on Friday until the final few minutes, but still ended up sixth.
However, disaster struck when Reynolds' co-driver Luke Youlden was behind the wheel in Thursday's second session and ran wide at the fast Sulman Park left-hander.
With no room for error, this notorious piece of race track claimed another victim - Youlden hitting the wall at near 200km/h and doing significant damage to the Erebus racer.
The crew did an amazing job to repair car, finishing at 4am on Friday morning - a 14-hour marathon effort.

Youlden is one of the field's most experienced co-drivers, lining up for his 20th Bathurst start this weekend.
"Very disappointed in myself," he said.
"I regard myself as a fairly safe pair of hands. The pace is hot, we were trying to do our best to push the team forward.
"We believe we've got a pretty quick car, so I was expecting more grip to be honest."
Reynolds visited Youlden in the medical centre.
"He's just probably emotionally scarred. It's difficult when you have a shunt around here," Reynolds said.
"It's not ideal right now, but we'll just have to make it work."
Normally a big rebuild on the first day of practice is not the way towards a victory on Sunday afternoon, but incredibly Reynolds was fourth fastest in Friday's final practice session.
BJR's Macauley Jones hit the wall hard coming into the cutting on Thursday.
Jones' crew also had a big job to repair his car, missing one practice session, but with more work overnight Thursday he was back in action on Friday.
"It was loose in the rear on Thursday morning, then just locked the brakes coming into the corner, wasn't much I could do after that," Jones said.
The impact badly damaged the rear and the roof of the car, meaning he and co-driver Dean Canto missed the second of the day's three practice sessions, whilst the BJR crew scrambled to get the car fixed.
Jones qualified 23rd for Sunday's race.
