An Albury man has proved it always pays to listen to your mother, after purchasing a lottery ticket at the behest of his mother and winning more than $1 million.
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said his mother burst into tears when he told her the news.
"Last week I was shopping with my mum and I only bought the ticket because she told me she had a good feeling about it," he said.
"If I hadn't been shopping with her, I probably wouldn't have bought it, so I certainly owe this win to my mum.
"She was in tears when I told her I'd won."
The man said he checked his ticket on Sunday morning and couldn't believe he had won.
IN OTHER NEWS:
He confirmed the prize with NSW Lotteries officials on Monday.
The man said he would be sharing his prize with his mother.
"I've woken up a millionaire and it feels amazing," he said.
"I need to have a good think about what I'm going to do.
"I've been planning to buy a new home for quite some time now so this will certainly pay for that.
"Of course I will be sharing the prize with my mum as well.
"It's going to take some time for the news to settle in but we did pop a bottle of champagne yesterday to celebrate."
