The star Wodonga bowler, who was recently crowned the World Singles Champion of Champions, fell in the final of the regional event to Wangaratta's Peta Mattys.
Whitehead had the early running, but Mattys never went away and eventually prevailed 25-21 to claim the title.

A dominant 25-6 win against YMGCR's Laureen Smith propelled Whitehead into the final, while Mattys edged out another YMGCR bowler in Claire Sanders, 25-22, in her semi-final.
Yarrawonga's Tyson Cromie and Wangaratta's Ian Brimblecombe contested the men's final, with the more experienced Brimblecombe prevailing, 25-11.
Cromie got past Wodonga's Mason Bayliss in the semi-final, while Brimblecombe was too strong for Bright's Patrick O'Shea.
In the quarter-finals, O'Shea defeated Rutherglen's Chris Langdon 25-17, Brimblecombe took care of Benalla's David Lindsay, 25-14, Bayliss saw off Benalla's Sam Beaton, 25-15, while Cromie eliminated Moira's Mark Moran, 25-10.
