Albury's Michael Damore is hoping to secure the lightweight title in March to propel himsel into a successful professional career.
The 21-year-old, who fights out of Albury's Physical Phuture gym, boasts a 9-6 record, but has stepped up for the big fights.
Damore captured the welterweight (69.5kg) title in April, before being crowned national lightweight (65kg) champion on August 31 in front of a home crowd at the SS and A Club.

His next challenge is to claim victory at welterweight (63.5kg) and he'll have the chance against Picton's Danny Roberts on March 27.
"I feel more comfortable as I get lighter. It's definitely harder to get down there, but the harder your train the fitter you are, the better it works out," Damore said.
"I've just got to keep running. I'm running 30 kilometres at a time just to get the weight down.
"I've been pretty happy with my form, I've had some losses, but I've learnt from them.
"I want to work on faster, harder combos, my movement and my fitness."
Damore took up the sport at 14 years of age and started training with Mitch Carter in 2015.
"Michael is definitely the most hard-working and committed fighter I've ever been involved with," Carter said.
"That's what makes it so easy to train Michael and get him ready for fights. You know if he agrees to a fight, he's 100 per cent committed.
"In the past I've had to chase guys up and ask why they aren't training and where have they been.
"You know when he is training, it's always 100 per cent. I don't have to worry about telling him to do more, it's usually telling him to rest and settle down.
"For any fighter, it's a pretty big feat to win three different titles in three different weight divisions."
Damore's next opponent likes to win via head kicks, but Carter confident his fighter will be well prepared.
"Michael has been fighting at the heavier weight division, so he's felt heavier shots," Carter said.
"Coming down into the lighter weight divisions should put him in good stead to walk this guy down and hopefully finish him.
"As we've decided towards going pro, we've discussed weights and Michael is on his way down to a comfortable weight to fight at as a pro.
"He's taking on the champions and all the big fights on his way to the pro ranks.
"It's all sort of going to plan and he's getting back to the weight he needs to be at.
"We're finally ready to step up into the pro ranks and this will likely be his last fight as an amateur.
"We're taking on the current champ at 63.5kg and that will put us in a good place to channel into the pro ranks."
Carter is in the process of moving his gym to the Albury Showgrounds, which will give Damore and the rest of his young fighters a top facility to work in.
"We'll still be based out of Albury, but we'll be fighting a lot more in the cities," Carter added.
"We'll still do our shows here and Michael will be headlining those shows as a pro."
Damore is hoping to secure another fight before his title bout on March 27.
