Reigning Victorian Women's NPL champions Calder United braved Saturday's sweltering heat in two practice matches against AWFA representative boys sides at Glen Park.

Calder's under-19s took on the AWFA under-15s, before the senior side clashed with the under-16 boys.
Despite going down 6-3 to a well-drilled Calder outfit, AWFA under-16s coach Mitch Carter took plenty from the hit-out heading into the annual representative tournament at Bathurst in a fortnight.

"We played our newcomers to the rep squad a little bit more so we could look and see where we need to build on those guys," Carter said.
"We've identified a few things we need to work as we move forward to Bathurst.
"The girls really took it to them and knew how to the work the ball.
"The boys were really impressed with how well they moved the ball and held the ball, which was good for them to experience.
"The girls blew us away a bit, but towards the end once the boys got in the rhythm of things, we started to move the ball and counter attacked pretty well.
"It was their first game together, so it took them a while to gel, but once they settled in they moved it pretty well."
The AWFA sides will come up against NPL teams from Sydney at the Bathurst tournament.
