CHILTERN has become the third place in the North East to join a project urging patients to seek other health aid before calling an ambulance.

The town this month added its name to Mitta and Corryong in being part of the community health resilience enterprise developed by Ambulance Victoria area manager Jo Brookes.
"Ultimately it's about improving the general health of the community overall, so people will become more educated about their health needs," Ms Brookes said.
"That way you're going to have a flow-on effect with less people presenting to ambulances and hospitals.
"If people are pushed to GPs, pharmacists and to having a good health plan before they're unwell that will put them at less risk of deteriorating to a medical emergency."

Ms Brookes pioneered the project at Mitta in 2018 and is now overseeing paramedic services co-ordinators Tom Bennetts, who is looking after Mitta and Corryong, and Norieul Kinross at Chiltern.
Mr Bennetts was assigned to Corryong in the wake of the bushfires and has been visiting those in remote areas.
He will be in the role for at least the next three months.
Ms Kinross began earlier this month at Chiltern.
Ms Brookes said recent patient callouts and community leaders were consulted to determine who may benefit from the program.
