A motion to set up a federal committee on the COVID-19 pandemic health response will be introduced by Indi MP Helen Haines when Parliament returns next week.

She will be among the MPs in Canberra on Wednesday for the special sitting.
Dr Haines wants the committee to review the measures taken by the government to address the health impacts of COVID-19, and the operation of the National Cabinet and Chief Medical Officer, among others.
The committee would be made up of government, opposition and crossbench MPs and senators.

The bill recommends those selected have experience in fields such as medicine, nursing, allied health or science and research.
She wants the committee to have the power to hold public hearings and call witnesses.
The notice of motion was supported in a signed letter from seven other crossbench MPs and senators, who said they do not want to be deprived of conducting their roles while Parliament is suspended.
