Having grown up on a cropping farm, Mr Rayner said he was always interested in using technology to improve farm systems.
After a gap year in 2017 working on farms in the Wimmera and in the US, he broadened his perspective.
"It's very exciting to have been accepted into the AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship, not only will it open doors and connect me with industry professionals, but I can be a part of a program that is working to improve the Australian agriculture industry," he said.
"I'm also really looking forward to the placement opportunities the scholarship provides."
Students will attend a workshop in July focused on leadership and development.
