Residents might not be able to gather for dawn services, but as the sun rises on Anzac Day the distinct sound of a bugle playing The Last Post will echo across Hume Retirement Village.

John Jansen first picked up the bugle as a 13-year-old schoolboy in Hay War Memorial High School's Army Cadet bugle and drum band.
For years he played The Last Post and the Rouse at Anzac Day dawn services, at Armistice Day ceremonies and at the funerals of returned servicemen and women.
Now 73 and faced with a global pandemic, Mr Jansen is determined to still pay tribute to the men and women who have served Australia.
"It's such a significant part of Australian history," he said.
"It's something that should never been forgotten, in my mind it's only because of those guys we live the lives we live now."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Mr Jansen said it was pleasing to see the number of people looking at alternate ways to commemorate Anzac Day given the COVID-19 restrictions.
He will play The Last Post and Rouse at 6am and 11am from the community centre car park.
COVID-19 and lockdown restrictions have forced most local Anzac Day commemorative marches services to be cancelled.
Victoria and NSW RSL branches have asked all residents to stay home but to walk outside and stand in their driveway, balcony or yard as The Last Post plays and observe a minute's silence to honour veterans.
2AY will broadcast prerecorded sections of the Albury sub-branch dawn service from 6am, while another service will be streamed on rslanzacspirit.com.au.
Mr Jansen said he wasn't aware of another time in history where residents could not attend Anzac Day commemorations.
"This year is going to be particularly special because of the unusual circumstances," he said. "I feel that without at least those meaningful calls being made on Anzac day, then there would be a great void in the significance of the day for me and many others who usually pay their respects by attending both services.
"I feel very strongly about Anzac Day, it means quite a bit to me given my heritage and my high school and the meaning behind it."
