More than 35 millimetres was recorded in Albury from 10pm Tuesday night until 5pm yesterday with more rain expected today and tomorrow and over the weekend.
And while autumn weather may well be behind us, the region's farmers are praising the constant heavy falls, giving them a strong start to the season.
Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Adam Morder said the cold outbreak is affecting most of south east Australia - something that hasn't happened for around 12 years.
"Maximum temperatures will be eight to 14 below average for this time of year," he said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"This is a very strong and wide spread cold outbreak across the south east of Australia, on the kind of scale we haven't seen in April since 2008.
"The wintry weather will stay with us well into the weekend with no relief until early next week."
The coldest day in Albury-Wodonga this week is expected to be Friday with a top of just 11 degrees on with a low of four degrees.
