"What the f ... are you doing?" the witness asked Damian Kondic, of Tyla Court.
Kondik rebutted him with the comment: "You don't know what she did," referring to his claim she had had an affair.
He then said his partner "won't give me the keys".
IN OTHER NEWS:
Kondic was excused from attending Albury Local Court this week over the attack.
Instead, magistrate Richard Funston was told by Kondic's lawyer, Jason Hanke, via a letter sent to the court, that the 46-year-old would be pleading guilty to the single domestic violence-related charge of common assault.
He will be sentenced on June 16.
Police said that Kondik, now studying to become a registered nurse, had "a number of serious convictions of a violent nature".
For the past seven years though he had maintained a clean criminal record.
At the time of the assault in February, Kondik and the victim, 33, had been in a relationship for about a year.
While the witness did not know Kondik, he knew the victim from attending school with her "some years ago".
The court was told how Kondik and his partner began arguing as he drove their car along North Street in North Albury on February 12 about 11am.
Kondik pulled over on the side of the road and the victim reached around and grabbed the keys from the ignition.
She got out and began walking east along North Street.
Police said Kondik got out of the car and followed, then "ran at the victim and tackled her to the ground".
After Kondik abused the stranger, the man walked into his front yard and armed himself with a garden rake.
The victim followed to get away from Kondik.
