"In line with the easing of stay at home measures by the government, we are pleased to announce that we are starting to reopen selected stores on a trial basis, with a view to progressively opening more stores over the coming weeks," a statement on Myer's website read.
The Border Mail can confirm Albury Myer will reopen from this Saturday, along with Dubbo, Wagga, Erina and Miranda in NSW, and three stores in South Australia and WA.
This is in addition to seven trial stores that have already opened in NSW and Queensland.
The reopening of stores will occur progressively and on a staged basis, taking into account government measures and conditions across the different states, particularly in relation to the easing of restrictions.
"Given the success and positive response from opening seven trial stores this past weekend, Myer has made the decision to open eight additional stores," a Myer spokesman said.
"We look forward to welcoming more team members back to work, and more customers back to their favourite department store, where we have taken extra precautions to ensure Myer has a safe and hygienic shopping environment for all."
The last day of trading for the Albury store was March 29.
The city's longest serving major retailer has a workforce of more than 70 people.
"The decision to temporarily close all Myer stores and stand down so many loyal and dedicated team members is one of the toughest decisions this company has faced in its 120 years of operation," Myer chief executive John King said in March.
"Our focus must remain on operating our business in a manner that protects the health and well-being of customers and team members, whilst supporting the government, and the communities in which we operate, in limiting the spread of COVID-19."
Enhanced safety and cleaning measures will be implemented across the stores that are reopening, including:
- Increased frequency of cleaning services across trial stores
- Protective items such as hand sanitiser stations, face masks and gloves available to team members
- Hand sanitiser available for customers
- Sneeze guards at registers to be progressively rolled out across the stores
- Social distancing measures of 1.5 metres between customers and team members, with clear signage across the stores
- The monitoring of customer numbers in store
- Contactless payments
And services that will remain suspended to reduce close contact include beauty appointments; intimate apparel fittings, suit fittings and shoe fittings.
