Myrtleford president Ian Wales has questioned why clearances remain open until June 30, declaring a rogue league could 'cherry-pick' leading players if the competition is called off.

If, for example, the O and M decides around the June long weekend to cancel the season, but another league elects to push on, despite the COVID-19 restrictions, the latter could, potentially, recruit a number of players.
"If you could have all leagues to get everyone to call the season, that's the perfect match," Wales said.
All leagues will decide whether their season starts, not AFL Victoria or AFL North East Border.
However, AFLNEB said last week it's planned a regional approach will be adopted.

"The biggest trouble we've got is clearances and why they're still open until June 30," Wales said.
"They were closed when the season was shutdown, abnormally. What happens if a league isn't affiliated with AFL Victoria, and they're just sitting back waiting for clearances and then go poaching players?"
