Tim Parker, his wife Penny and sons Josh, 11, and Liam, 9, should have been in Perth for school holidays this week.

Instead the COVID-19 hit has seen the Melburnians instead head to Yarrawonga-Mulwala, Rutherglen and Bright for a few days.

On Sunday they saw painted silos at Goorambat and were impressed to learn of the origin of retailer GJ Coles who opened his first store at nearby St James.

"We've had them on our list for awhile because we've done a few others on the western side of Victoria and in South Australia," Mr Parker said.

The family looked to the North East to holiday because Mr Parker is entitled to an extra day of annual leave from his employer, NAB, if he visits an area affected by last summer's bushfires.
