Albury Auto Body Repair fourth-year apprentice Jaymes Smith and GOTAFE student knows a bit about excelling at a competitive level, and will look to go one better when he competes at the World Skills trade competition representing Victoria in Perth in April.
He took out a gold medal in the automotive refinishing section of the regional competition.
"I'm there to win," he said.
"I love that competitive side of the trade and it has definitely made me better at what I do at work."
The national titles had to be pushed back due to the coronavirus, but Jaymes said it only gives him more time to refine his skills.

"Gives me a bit more time to practice on the weekends and get to know what materials I will be using," he said.
The 23-year-old began his trade through a pre-apprenticeship with GOTAFE and from there landed a job with the Albury-based repairers. If successful, Jaymes could compete at the world titles in Beijing later next year.
