The player won the 1st Prize in Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw 10400, drawn Wednesday, August 12 after buying the ticket from Beckers Newsagency on Dean Street.
The ticket was unregistered, so officials from the Lott had no way of contacting the winner to break the news and had to wait for him to come forward to claim his prize.
Speaking with an official from the Lott this morning, the man, who isn't identified to protect his identity, admitted he had completely forgotten he'd purchased the ticket.
"When I was running some errands, I remembered I hadn't checked it, so I went to the newsagency," he said.
"That's when I found out. I was shocked.
"I just went completely silent. It's crazy.
"I was screaming on the inside, but on the outside, I probably just looked stunned.
"I told my wife and she was very happy, as you can imagine.
"We went out for a nice dinner to celebrate. It was good."
When asked how he planned to enjoy his unexpected windfall, the man said he was so overwhelmed by the news he didn't know what to do with his prize.
"We've been trying to think about what to do with it, but we still aren't sure," he said.
"We will put it in the bank and just stew on it.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"I am sure there will be something nice in there for us, but honestly we really just don't know.
"I never thought I would actually win this much money, so I've never considered what I would do with it."
Beckers Newsagency owner David Becker said he couldn't be happier for his winner.
"It's great news," he said.
"It's very exciting.
"He came in and said 'guess what, you guys sold me a winning ticket.
"Then he gave us a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine as a thank you.
"He was very pleased. He's an incredibly deserving winner and we wish him all the best with his prize.
"We hope we can sell some more major prize winning tickets. It's always a thrill."
