Victoria has recorded fewer than 100 new COVID-19 cases for the first time in more than two months, with 94 new cases and 18 deaths.
The last time Victoria's new COVID-19 cases were below 100, was July 5, with 74 new cases.
In a Friday press conference, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said her state was looking closely at regional virus numbers.
"Dr Chant will actually update us on a few cases which were evident in Wodonga and what implications that could have for NSW," she said.
"We continue to get briefings and information on what the status of the virus in regional Victoria is ... to make sure when we do relax those border conditions, that it doesn't unintentionally infect parts of regional NSW.
"Dr Chant and her team are going through that at this stage, so I hope to have something more definite to announce next week."
There were 13 new cases in NSW on Friday - 12 acquired through community transmission, and one through hotel quarantine.
Dr Chant said there was a new COVID-19 case on Friday in a NSW resident who had spent some time in the "Victorian border communities, which did bring two NSW residents into contact with the case".
"Those residents are now in isolation and the Murrumbidgee Local Health District contacted these two people and are continuing to monitor them and they will remain in isolation for the 14 days," she said.
Asked if this case was related to an approved border crossing permit or not, Dr Chant said: "I think it just highlights the way we're working cooperatively with our Victorian colleagues.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"This was a case that came up within the vicinity near Wodonga, but not in Wodonga, by virtue of that person who was subsequently diagnosed as a case, that had contacts in the Victorian side but also in the NSW side, and we were provided with that information."
No new cases were reported for Albury, Wodonga, North East local government areas or the MLHD on Friday.
A Department of Defence contractor visited Wodonga and later tested positive, the Department of Defence confirmed this week.
MLHD could not provide any further details about the people told to go into isolation when contacted by The Border Mail.
"I want to thank the border communities for their patience and understanding, we are working through issues on the Victoria-NSW border and getting advice from health, with the prospect of easing restrictions towards the end of next week," Ms Berejiklian said.
"I know a lot of rural and regional communities tune in ... I want to thank them for their patience and acknowledge the frustration they've experienced."
