But now some sort of normality has returned for the area, colloquially known as the Peninsula, the towns want to celebrate the community they have to offer.
The Peninsula Seasonal Markets will hold the first community event, COVID-safe of course, in December and organisers are looking for local stall holders to come on board.
"The markets have formed as part of a wider community engagement initiative that is looking to energise the community after a difficult 2019-2020," organiser Angela Nevin Lewis said.
"While we weren't flame affected, everyone had someone on the back of a tanker during the fires and then COVID hit and our community meetings and BBQs were called off as well.
"We just want to bring everyone together."
Ms Nevin Lewis said several local creatives have already signed up for the market including The Jewellery Box.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"This enterprise was started by six young girls, aged 8-13, during the second round of remote learning and saw the group develop both their crafting and business skills, including jewellery and mask making, online marketing and organisation of a pop-up stall after restrictions eased, at the end of their road in Talgarno," she said.
The first market will be held in Bethanga on Sunday, December 6, with the next three in March, June and September.
