When St Anne's Primary School could not organise its usual year 5 camp to Ballarat museum Sovereign Hill this year, teachers Madeleine Hynes and Nick Goode wanted to make sure the year group did not miss out altogether.
The children dressed up in period costumes and hunted for gold nuggets, well, gold-painted rocks, around the oval before trying their hands at calligraphy, letter writing, candle making and creating damper.

"It was just about celebrating the gold rush, kind of basing it off what they would have done at Sovereign Hill," Miss Hynes said.
She praised the students' costumes and thanked the school and staff for their support and assistance throughout the special day.
While the coronavirus pandemic prevented a physical visit, one notable feature of Sovereign Hill was able to be transported to St Anne's.
"The raspberry drops are known to be a Sovereign Hill highlight so we got some of them as well for the kids to enjoy," Miss Hynes said.
