Anthony Hunter served his traineeship at the former Hume Golf Club in Albury and was the professional at Howlong for 12 years, but is now at Commercial Albury Golf Club as a teaching pro.
It also marks an official return to the sport after a decade in finance roles.
"It's just about being able to see people improve and there's so much to the game, if you can see some sort of improvement to make people enjoy the game more, that's great because it's a game you can play your whole life," Hunter said.
Hunter started his traineeship with highly respected coach John Rogers in 1986 and played on the Australasian Tour.
But like so many professionals, the demands of running his own business in a pro shop meant he couldn't play as much.
"I've been playing pretty seriously the last two years, I've played some Legends (over 50) Tour events, like the NSW Senior Open and events at Yarrawonga, so I've had my hand in playing and really trying to improve," he said.
The 53-year-old has also gained an accreditation for physical screenings.
"It shows areas where they can improve, like if you make changes to body movements or strengthen up some particular muscles it will make improvements to their swing," he explained.
"As a coach you have to understand people's limitations, there's no point trying to teach everyone to swing like Adam Scott (who has arguably the best swing on the USPGA Tour) or Jason Day if they're not physically capable."
Hunter also uses video analysis, but that's not compulsory if players don't want to utilise it.
Golf is one of the few sports to boom during COVID-19 and Hunter has been busy with beginners classes for ladies, seniors and juniors.

"The feedback we've had from members is really positive, to get someone of Anthony's experience and he's well known and respected, and not only in golf circles but in the area as well, we're very happy to have him on board," club pro John van der Veen said.
