Organisers of the popular Beechworth event announced the tough decision on Friday, with no clear outline on when events of its size could recommence in Victoria the major factor.
Opera in the Alps founders and directors Graeme Wall and Margot Cory-Wall said in a statement on Facebook the safety of singers, orchestra, volunteers, regional partners and the audience was of utmost importance.

"The scale of our events is such that we require significant time to plan and prepare," the couple said.
The Melbourne duo added they will continue to run the Opera Scholars Australia program, which has successfully transitioned to an online platform this year.
Planning has already commenced for the 2022 event, scheduled for Saturday, March 12.
