Applications have opened for "Shape Wangaratta", which the council hopes will be a large community panel made up of diverse people from all ages and backgrounds to help with council plans.
The chosen group of people will participate in activities like surveys, focus groups, workshops or interviews.
Wangaratta Council community wellbeing director Jaime Chubb said Shape Wangaratta would represent a new way for the council to actively seek community engagement.
"We want to break down barriers to community engagement and participation in council activities," she said.
"The beauty of Shape Wangaratta is that it's up to each member how much they participate.
"We'd like to get a diverse group together from all sections of our community - we'd really love to hear from some new voices who might not have engaged with council in the past."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Wangaratta Council has been criticised in the past for not seeking enough community engagement on big issues such as changing its logo.
The first task for Shape Wangaratta will be helping to develop the council's 2021-25 community vision and council plan.
Expressions of interest to join the group are open until 4 December 2020, with details on the council website at www.wangaratta.vic.gov.au/shapewangaratta.
