The opening three rounds of the region's pennant season required bowlers to wear face masks while on the green, except if matches were played in NSW at Corowa or Mulwala, but are now only required where 1.5m of social distance can't be achieved.
A host of concerns had been raised about masks in the lead up to the season, particularly for players who already experience breathing difficulties and could have been further at risk when warmer temperatures arrived in summer.

New caps on venues are determined by one person per square metre to a maximum of 500 outdoors, with groups not to exceed 50.
Ovens and Murray pennant committee chairman Ross Rankin said each club has its own COVID plan and can decide what to enforce.
"I'm certain there wouldn't' be a club that wouldn't want to stop wearing masks. Everyone is totally over it after a couple of weeks," Rankin said.
Spectators are now permitted and must be included in venue caps.
Carpooling is allowed, but the recommendation is still to avoid it.
