Border hockey export Jocelyn Bartram named in new-look Hockeyroos squad

The Australian hockey community was in shock on Wednesday when star goalkeeper Rachael Lynch and former skipper Georgina Morgan were omitted from the 25-player squad.

Lynch was named the 2019 International Hockey Federation goalkeeper of the year in February, while Morgan was still considered one of the team's best defenders.

Bartram, 27, has had to bide her time since her Australian debut in 2016, with 51 national appearances behind Lynch, who was the first choice goalkeeper throughout that period.

Ashlee Wells has played 121 times for Australia and is likely to be Bartram's main rival for the starting goalkeeper's spot at the next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo, while rookie Aleisha Power (three matches) has also been named in the squad.

"I can't really comment on that (Lynch's omission), I can only comment on my own experiences," Bartram said.

"I'm just excited to be part of the group and can't wait to get back to training with the girls. We've got a Christmas break coming up and we'll start fresh to push hard for the Olympics 2.0.

"It's a massive honour and I'm excited for the opportunity to work hard with the girls to get ourselves to a point where we can be successful."

Reports surfaced on Thursday that half of the Hockeyroos squad had considered a strike amid allegations of a toxic culture within the elite women's program.
