The Wodonga Bulldogs football ground on Vermont Street in Wodonga was targeted by a burglar in the early hours of Friday.
The offender rummaged for items to steal and entered a rear coolroom.
An alarm activated and the man fled.
Detective Leading Senior Constable Sarah Patrick said the man had a medium build, and wore a hoodie and track pants.

Police are also investigating a break-in at the Telegraph Hotel in Chiltern and an attempt at the nearby Ironbark Tavern on November 22.
Two people took cash and alcohol from the Telegraph between 10pm and midnight.
They were unsuccessful at the second venue.
The town's swimming pool was also targeted overnight on Monday.
