Fund created to help family bring Allecha Boyd's body home

For three years, her family have been pleading for those responsible to reveal the location of the body.

Then came the call they had been waiting for.

On Tuesday, Samuel John Shephard, who is serving a 27-year-sentence for her murder and other charges, led investigators to what is strongly believed to be her body.

Rhiannon Boyd, Allecha's sister, said after three painful years her family finally got the call they wanted and it was a "bittersweet moment".

To cover the costs of a funeral and returning her body to Melbourne, the Boyd and Freeman family have started a GoFundMe page.

"We have finally got the phone call that we all waited for to be told Allecha's body had finally been found, so we can now start the grieving process properly," Rhiannon wrote.

"We have always had no intentions of starting a GoFundMe account as we thought (were told from the start) that the costs of getting Allecha home when she was found would of been covered from victims of crime.

"Unfortunately that has proven to be untrue and now we are left to try come up with funds to bring her home."

Rhiannon further explained that as Allecha's body is currently at the morgue in Wagga, she will then need to be transferred to Newcastle and then back to Wagga.

Then they will need to organise a flight for Allecha's remains to come home to Melbourne, and then finally her funeral.

"All we are asking for is a beautiful send off for our dear Allecha like she deserves," Rhiannon said.

Strike Force Amias investigators and specialist forensic officers searched a new area of Lester State Forest on Tuesday, about 20km south-west of Coolamon, where they found the skeletal remains.

While the remains are yet to be formerly identified, Riverina Police District Commander Superintendent Bob Noble said the circumstances strongly indicated they belonged to Allecha.

As of Thursday afternoon, the crowdfunding page had reached almost $5000.
