Emergency services were called to a site on Howlong-Balldale Road about 12.10pm on Tuesday.
Mr Nield, from Snake Valley near Ballarat, had only recently begun working at the business.
He was not an employee of Oreco Group, a spokesman said.
SafeWork NSW said the matter is being investigated.
Police also attended are preparing a report for the coroner.
Tributes flowed for the late man on Thursday as news reached his friends.

Mr Nield, who was in a long term relationship, was passionate about cars and four-wheel-driving.
Friends expressed shock at the news.
"Rest in peace mate, you were always so positive and upbeat, no matter what was going on you always had time for a chat, a joke and a laugh," Ben Kirby said.
"My heart goes out to your friends and family.
"You may be gone but you will never be forgotten."
A spokesman for the workplace safety authority said the incident was being examined.
"SafeWork NSW is investigating a fatality of a 28-year-old plant operator who died at a wood chipping facility at Howlong," they said.
"SafeWork's investigation is ongoing and no further comment is available at this time."
