It not only marked the end of their time at school, but also reward for effort after one of the most challenging years they've faced to date.
Albury High School student Nivetha Pathmanathan's ATAR score of 96.5 earned her the title of dux.
Miss Pathmanathan performed well across her subjects of English advanced, maths advanced and extension, chemistry, biology and society and culture.
"It was a nice surprise," she said.
"I think I was expecting the marks that I got, but not really the ATAR."
She now plans to study optometry at the University of New South Wales in Sydney.
Nick Hobbs became the school's proxime accessit with his score of 94.75, earning a 98 in maths.
"I put a lot of work in this year, so it's good to see that pay off," he said.
Fellow classmate Ebony Strauss also scored high with an ATAR of 91.55.
Miss Strauss commenced work this week at the Albury Base Hospital, where she will run COVID checks on visitors.
After her gap year she plans to study paramedicine at Monash University.
Miss Strauss said the support of friends and family helped her through the tough year.

"It's been an exhausting couple of months," she said.
At Thurgoona's Trinity Anglican College, Lois Segun-Beloved was dux with a near perfect score of 99.4.
"I wasn't expecting it," Miss Segun-Beloved said.
"Biology had been my worst subject the entire year, so the fact that I got the highest score for biology was surprising to me."
She now plans to follow in her parents footsteps and study medicine at UNSW.
Classmate Tom Summerfield was thrilled when he received a score of 99 in music, something he plans to pursue now that school is over.
"I always thought that the theory side of it was going to let me down big time, but I'm really glad that it didn't show off in the results," he said.
James Fallon High School year 12 captains Ivana Skok and Harrison Maher both achieved excellent results.
After dedicating the year to her artwork, Albury High School student Chevy Parker had her pieces selected for Art Express to be showcased in Sydney.
"It's been a dream of mine forever, so getting in is very exciting," Miss Parker said.
