The second testing site at Wodonga racecourse opened at 9am on Sunday and will operate in addition to the drive-through testing station in Vermont Street.
The racecourse site will be open until 4am and the Vermont Street site is open from 8am to 4pm.
Albury Wodonga Health said in a statement the second testing clinic had been established in response to a "significant increase in testing demand" following the call for people to get tested after Sydney's northern beaches were declared a "red zone" and had been put into lockdown until Wednesday by the NSW government.
"We would like to sincerely thank the communities of Albury-Wodonga, and those travelling from NSW, for your responsible actions and patience as we respond to this demand," AWH said in a statement.
The Border Mail understands there were about 250 tests conducted on Saturday, with a confirmed 423 tests conducted since Friday.
Before the Northern Beaches outbreak the daily number locally was well under 50.
People seeking a COVID test at the racecourse site are urged to enter via Wilson Street.
But people maybe directed to Vermont Street if wait times become too long.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health and Human Services is extending the orange zone in NSW to include the NSW Central Coast region.
Any people either entering Victoria in coming days or who have already entered Victoria and who have visited the Border region since December 19 are strongly encouraged to get tested and isolate immediately until they receive a negative result.
The existing Victorian border permit system will now be updated to include the NSW Central Coast in the orange zone.
