Wodonga bowler Kylie Whitehead wins clubs singles for a record eighth consecutive time

The 2019 World Singles Champion of Champions recently won her eighth straight women's singles title at Wodonga Bowling Club - a feat never achieved in the club's history.

She was made to work hard for the victory by Judy Jones, who stayed with her for the majority of the contest, before a strong finish saw Whitehead extend her streak, which dates back to the 2013-14 season.

Wodonga women's bowls president Isabel Pleming marked the final and said it could have gone either way.

"It was a very good final," she said.

"It see-sawed a bit and it was quite close until the last few ends and Kylie broke away in the finish."

Whitehead has taken a step back from pennant bowls this season, but has continued to play at a high level in club and region events.

She teamed up with Yackandandah's Mary Tragardh and YMGCR's Caroline Reilly to win the Ovens and Murray state triples at Wangaratta in November and combined with YMGCR's Anne Miles, Laureen Smith and Claire Sanders to claim the fours.

Whitehead will next contest the Ovens and Murray Champion of Champions for the chance to compete at state level in April.

Meanwhile, Wodonga A1 skip Mason Bayliss captured his second consecutive men's singles title at the club with a strong display against Rob Taylor in the final.

Bayliss is set to play in the 2020 Victorian Championships at Warrnambool in January after the event was postponed due to COVID-19.
