Wangaratta's Jodie Fruend topples Wodonga's Kylie Whitehead in thrilling singles final

The pair were locked at 23-all after a see-sawing contest at YMGCR, but Fruend picked up two shots to win the title, 25-23, against the eight-time Wodonga club champion.

Benalla's Sharon Warfe was crowned Ovens and Murray's women's singles champion of champions with an impressive six-shot victory against Yackandandah's Mary Tragardh.

Warfe was at the top of her game to win a high quality game of bowls, 25-19.

Tragardh booked her place in the decider earlier in the day with a comprehensive 25-10 result against the defending champion, Wangaratta's Peta Mattys.

YMGCR also hosted the semi-finals and final of the mixed pairs.

Wangaratta's Ian Brimblecombe and YMGCR's Anne Miles saw off a host of strong challengers to defend their crown.

The pair got past Yarrawonga duo Tim Cromie and Evelyn Calder, 23-9, in the decider.

Brimblecombe and Miles survived a major scare in the semi-final against young Wangaratta combination Ethan Fruend and Rhoanna Smith, but got the job done by the barest of margins, 18-17.

Cromie and Calder progressed to the final with a 23-7 salute over the Kiewa Valley side of Bill James and Deb Crothers.

All Ovens and Murray state title winners will go on to represent the region at the Bowls Victoria state championships in Bendigo from May 4 to 12.
