Diamonds had the ascendency early on but a hamstring injury to star midfielder Dylan Gavel turned the game on its head.
With scores locked at nil-all at the break, Twin City came out the better side and put two on Diamonds inside 10 minutes through Sam Murray and Shannon McKenzie.
The hosts pulled one back late via Martin Miranda, but were unable to impact the result.
Wanderers' coach Shaun Wilhelm didn't think many would predict his side to beat Diamonds first up.
ALSO IN SPORT:
"We probably could have scored more goals. We had plenty more opportunities that would have killed the game, but fatigue kicked in at the end," he said.
"The boys got themselves up for it knowing full well what happened last year (5-3 loss) and didn't disappoint.
"Brady Godfrey stepped up for us in the back line and Phil Tester in the middle."
Experienced duo Josh Zito and Mat Hasler also showed plenty of promise in their return to the club.
Diamonds coach Daniel Griffin said his side was made to pay for its lapse.
"They only had three or four chances all game but they took them and that's what matters at the end of the day," he said.
