Mahamedeis opened as an $8-chance but a flood of early money for the son of Magnus quickly saw his odds tumble.
The TAB's Glenn Munsie said it had been inundated with several large wagers on Mahamedeis which resulted in his odds being slashed by more than half and into $3.80.
"There has been a stack of early money for Mahamedeis in the cup," Munsie said.
"There was one bet of $2500 at $8, then $500 at $7, $500 at $6 and $3500 each-way at $6.
"Punters didn't stop there with another three $2000 bets at $5, $4.60 and $4.20.
"Mahamedeis is now into as short as $3.80."
