Investigators have been told a 4WD and a semi-trailer collided at the intersection of Howlong-Chiltern Road and Gooramadda Road just before 2.30pm.
"The driver of the 4WD, a male who is yet to be formally identified, sadly died at the scene," a Victoria Police statement said.
"The driver of the semi-trailer stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their inquiries.
