A Wodonga Highway Patrol spokesman said the incident occurred mid-morning Saturday on High Street at the intersection of Wodonga Street.
The orange Kia sedan travelling north, driven by a woman in her early 20s, knocked the light pole off its mounts.
Firefighters and ambulance officers attended but the woman was not injured.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, which affected traffic around the site.
"It just caused a bit of a delay while we cleaned it up," the spokesman said.
