The man drove his car at his ex-girlfriend's 16-year-old son then yelled out: "You're a f ... ing dead dog."
Albury Local Court magistrate Richard Funston said he agreed with a defence submission that a community corrections order was the most appropriate penalty.

But that was with a strong proviso for the man, who cannot be named.
"I'll tell you what, if you breach this community corrections order you're going to be locked up," Mr Funston said.
The man, 27, of Logan Road, previously pleaded guilty to charges of driving in a manner dangerous, stalking or intimidation and contravention of an apprehended violence order.
Mr Funston deferred sentencing earlier this month so he could first get hold of a sentencing assessment report on the man.
At the time the court was told how the disability support pensioner had been in a sporadic relationship with the victim's mother for about three years.
The boy was 16 at the time of the offence and was living with his mother and sister in McDonald Road, Lavington.
An apprehended domestic violence order was in place for their protection.
The boy was at home on December 13 about 11.15pm with his mother and sister, watching television, when they twice heard loud screeching that sounded like a car doing a burnout.
They went outside to investigate and saw the man in the driver's seat of a dark Holden Commodore.
He opened his door and looked back at them.
"Get away from my house," the boy told the man, who yelled abuse in return before driving at him while doing another burnout.
The man then made his "dead dog" threat.
Mr Funston imposed an 18-month order, with a condition he attend a men's behaviour change program.
His licence was disqualified for 12 months.
