Wangaratta Rovers overcame two players pulling out in the lead-up to the game, as well as a handful of injuries on the day, in running away from Lavington on Sunday.
"To come away with a win is enormous for us, considering the injuries we had," co-coach Daryn Cresswell said in the visitors' jubilant dressing room.
"On Thursday night, Ed Dayman rolled his ankle and Ky Williamson pulled out with a quad injury on Friday night.
"(Captain) Michael Clark injured his knee so he would have to be suspect to play next week, Cal McFadden hurt his knee so we had to sit him at full-forward and Stuart Booth was concussed."
The Hawks were already missing Raven Jolliffe for the first three matches with a facial fracture, while boom Gold Coast product Tom Thynne has a hamstring complaint.
