Murray Bushrangers respond from poor start to NAB League season with impressive display

A sublime defensive display limited Geelong to two goals for the day as the Bushies kicked the first 10 majors of the contest to romp to a 12.11 (83) to 2.14 (26) triumph.

Wangaratta product Tyler Norton was best on ground with his leg speed a real factor off half back, while Albury duo Daniel Turner and Paddy Parnell were also impressive in defence.

Josh Rachele shone up forward with four majors, while Albury's Cameron McLeod and Henty's Toby Murray each booted two.

Bushies talent manager Mick Wilson was pleased with the response from the group after a poor start to the campaign against Bendigo Pioneers.

"The coaches really worked on making sure the players did the basics, as in clean possession of the footy and not overusing it," Wilson said.

"Today was a complete transition compared to last week where we had too many basic skill errors and unforced errors.

"They turned it around and did it really well.

"The back six, which included Daniel Turner, Paddy Parnell and Tyler Norton, was outstanding.

"Tyler's run and carry was really good. He used his speed which we've been trying to get him to do for a few weeks, which was good.

"Daniel Turner's attack on the footy and his contested marking was outstanding."

Meanwhile, the Murray Bushrangers girls posted win number two for the season with a come from behind 5.3 (33) to 2.6 (18) victory over Geelong Falcons in Bendigo on Sunday.

The Bushies trailed at every change, but booted three unanswered goals with a strong breeze in the final term to prevail by 15 points.

Areaka Bamblett, Olivia Cicolini, Lily Sharp, Sophia McCarthy and Matilda Lyons all hit the scoreboard, while Wodonga's Kaylea Kobzan and Riverina duo Lily Anderson and India Lehman were the standout performers.

A win also came for the under-17 boys over Gippsland Power on Saturday.

The young Bushrangers led after each quarter and held off a fast-finishing Power to close out the result 12.6 (78) to 9.16 (70).
