Pestpac Albury managing director Belinda Walsh said pests had been very active this season and most, if not all, operators in the area were searching for more staff.
"It's been a very bad season for all sorts of creepy crawlies," she said.
She said mice and earwigs had been especially bad.
"People are calling and complaining about the noises in the roof, just scampering and a little bit of thudding," she said.
"They're seeing them, they're just running around in the open.
"Because of the weather we've had before Christmas...I think it's just ramped everything up and they come out into the open to play, much to our disgust."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Ms Walsh said the business had been receiving more telephone calls than in previous years.
"There's a higher volume of phone calls coming through, and they're trying to go to a hardware shop to do it for themselves and there's just nothing for them to buy," she said.
Despite best efforts, Ms Walsh said the company couldn't find any qualified pest controllers or even trainees.
"They have always been very difficult to come across, but it's worse now that so many of us are after them," she said.
"We've been advertising, over and over again and just haven't been successful getting staff.
"I think we're all just pulling our hair out."
