Thunder out-scored their opponents by nine tries to two in Junee and have now put four points between themselves and Brothers at the foot of Group 9.
"It was a very pleasing performance " Purtell said.
"We had to go up there and execute our game plan and I thought we did that to a really high standard for the majority of the game, which is why we came away with that result.
"We were really patient. We didn't push too many passes early on, we were happy to get to the end of our sets and grind out that first 20 minutes.
"Like any game, there were ebbs and flows. We scored some points really early on but were happy to get back to our game plan.
"I'm glad with the patience they showed even though we were ahead on the scoreboard and well ahead at certain points during the game."
Ty Fletcher touched down inside three minutes at Laurie Daley Oval and Curtly Jenkinson scored two first-half tries as Thunder asserted their authority.
Robert Byatt also went over for Purtell's side, with a Keanau Wighton try sandwiched by two for James Olds in the second period.
"It was a really good team performance," Purtell said. "Everyone played well to be honest.
"Mason Fuller's been a really positive influence for a young guy who's playing in the halves. That's a tough position so he's been improving each week.
"The forwards always have a good go, Jon Huggett and Joe Lumb. Rhys Mitsch has been good for us, for a young guy in the front row as well."
Thunder's second win of the season, and first on the road, comes as a timely boost as they prepare to face Tumut next weekend for the second time in just 15 days.

"Confidence and momentum is something every team would love to bottle," Purtell said.
"If you're getting beat every week, your confidence is going to take a shot but games like that give boys confidence, that they're able to play at this level.
"Hopefully they go up a notch next week because we've got a tough task.
"We were in the arm-wrestle with Tumut for the first 20 minutes last week so for us, it'll be about getting back to the basics against them.
"They're a really strong team so if we get to the end of our sets and kick really well, we can build pressure that way.
"We'll try not to give them too many opportunities with the football."
Olds felt his hamstring late in the game and will be assessed this week, while Reece Clegg aggravated an ankle injury he's been carrying all season.
