The single-car crash happened at 3.30am on Sunday when the driver, heading west toward Mulwala, lost control of his 2007 Holden Commodore sedan on the bend near the intersection with Croppers Road.
Albury Highway Patrol Acting Sergeant Nick Fahy said local police from the Murray River Police District were investigating whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
"The vehicle has left the roadway for an unknown reason and impacted two trees, causing extensive damage to the vehicle, with the vehicle coming to rest on its roof," he said.
"The driver was trapped in the vehicle for some time and was released by Fire and Rescue NSW around 5.20 that morning.
"He received a laceration to his right upper arm and was conveyed to Canberra Hospital for further treatment.
"Investigations are continuing."
The driver was the sole occupant of the car.
While the cause is yet to be determined, one witness estimated the car came to rest nine metres from the road, near the site of construction for the new walking and cycling trail from Corowa to Mulwala.
IN OTHER NEWS:
It occurred about 300 metres west of Croppers Road, soon after the newly created 80km/h speed limit.
This was due to the road's crash history, traffic volume, road intersections and property access points.
